Archaeological evaluation of a small housing development in Caerleon revealed the presence of substantial Roman remains in the southern area of the site.
The wall (Phase 1, left) is thought to be part of a large civilian building, possibly a dwelling or inn/shop. This building was demolished, probably in the late 2nd to early 3rd century AD and a less substantial timber structure with stone foundations was erected on the site.
